"Several Sizes Too Small" via On the Runway by Ruth La Ferla
Why does everyone have to hate on the youngins? La Ferla just published a very snarky article for the New York Times in which she criticizes all of the recent fashion hoopla around tween-aged style stars.
Now, I know that fashion has always had an obsession with youth, but La Ferla, I didn’t think someone of your caliber would stoop to a level of jealousy for these girls. I mean, I’m sure that when you were thirteen, you wished that you had the sartorial taste of the Fanning sisters, but this doesn’t give you reason to become the big bad bully of the fashion playground - pick on someone your own size, woman.
It just baffles me that anyone (especially those who work within the industry themselves) would be critical of young people embracing high levels of personal style, and that they would actually be upset that others are celebrating it. Yes, it’s wrong for parents to be pushing their children into the spotlight, but when the kid is doing it out of pure love and interest, now, that’s a beautiful thing.
It is exciting to see a young starlet like Hailee Steinfeld show up to the red carpet looking stunning in Prada, because, her predecessors have tended to show up in things like this, or this, or this.
You get my point, right?
